Gourmet Argentinian Food From Our Empanada Restaurant in the San Francisco Bay Area
For El Porteño Empanadas owner Joseph Ahearne, family and food are the two things closest to his heart—and these passions are what led him to start his empanada restaurant, El Porteño, in 2008. Luckily for Joseph, a taste for authentic cuisine and gourmet food runs in the family. The recipe for El Porteño’s signature buttery, flaky empanada dough is born from a combination of his mother’s empanada recipe and pastry techniques from his sister, who trained as a pastry chef in France.
We began selling empanadas at farmers’ markets and food trucks. Today, we are proud to offer empanada delivery services and empanada restaurants in two locations, earning a coveted spot in San Francisco’s historic Ferry Building and a second location in the heart of the Napa Valley wine country. Joseph, who is Napa born and raised, runs the back-end of the restaurant, while his wife, Teresa, manages the front-end business. Our small fleet of fewer than 50 employees feel like family.
Our gourmet Argentinian empanadas are made using traditional techniques and small-batch artisanal processes. We source our ingredients from local farms such as Far West Fungi, Keller’s Crafted Meats, and Central Milling.
